last days of school
goodbye parties
"see you next year"
or not
some kids and teachers are leaving
Europe, America or China
the destination of #4's teacher

They are difficult times
to the ones who stay and to the ones who go
and each one deals with it diferently
it's a normal thing in the international schools
but not easy to deal with

quando uma família anuncia que vai partir
normalmente apartir da Páscoa
começa o processo de desenraizar as raízes feitas
umas mais profundas que outras
dependendo do número de anos que ficaram
when a family knows that are leaving
usually after Easter
the process of leaving starts
the roots, either deep or superficial
start to be dealt with

with kids
the way they deal with it
and most of them don't want to go anywhere
shows in the way they behave
at home, at school, with their friends, parents and siblings

when they realize that the move it's coming fast
they feel a strange and strong will to break out with their friends
with mean words
with fights over silly stuff
and their friends don't understand why
what's the reason for "you're not my friend anymore"

other kids
they go trought the move apparently very well
in a very "mature" way
but overnight they don't want to go
to birthday parties or playdates or sleepovers
and they get closed in
in their angry feelings of total desperation
they can't get it out with words
and the bedroom begins to be seen as a prison
a place where they feel less uncomfortable
and just a few see or feel the transformation
they are always with a masked smile

others, kids or adults
show a grand entusiam offer the new adventure
the expectations are huge
the new destination is paradise on earth
and all the problems/difficulties felt in their still expat country
comes over board like a blind revenge
and the ones that stay
with exactly the same feelings
feel like the looser ones
the ones who still have to cope
unable to go anywhere, at least not yet

namorados no secundário
e tudo acaba
amigos ou não
girlfriends and boyfriends in high school
suffer huge amount of destress
they know whats coming, but what to do?
some, enjoy to be a item until the last day
others "know" that their love will endure a 8 hour time zone difference
and others as soon as they realize the move
they break up
over an arranged fight or a franc talk
and remain just friends or not

emails and Skype numbers are exchanged
promises of stay in touch forever are made
but usually
best friends forever are not to be anymore
the distance makes a comfortable friendship vanishes in the air
the "best" and "forever" part is not to be

but there is also the ones
that never felt 100% happy
especially in the school
there was something missing
a true friendship
so the move it's ok
and with any luck
they will find true happiness
in the new place

the ones who stay also go trough a survival process
suddenly they are more close to the ones that are staying put
even if they were ignored all year round
and sometimes new friendships begin
but other times
once new students arrive they are again ignored
until the end of the next school year

são sentimentos
todos eles
legítimos e verdadeiros
que devem ser tomados em conta
e que muitas vezes precisam de tempo
e de serem detectados
para todos puderem ser ajudados
os que ficam e os que vão
para que todos eles tenham boas memórias
mesmo destes tempos mais conturbados
feelings
all of them
legit and real
that we all have to be conscious and aware
they all need time
and if gets complicated
they might need one hand or two
either the ones that are leaving either the ones that stay
so that all of them will have fond memories of this troubled times

tenham uma excelente semana
have a great week everyone

Bjnhs

Hi Joana,
What a coincidence to hear from you today, as a few hours ago, we drove past your old house….and wondering how you all were doing….
We ( with Ayako and Mason) have just arrived to the south of France, and looking at finishing our little house…
hope you are all ok….
when are you leaving to go to Portugal? soon I guess…..

Well, if your ways were leading you back here…..you know we'd love to have you all on board….
kisses an all kids….and to the big one….

Eric Ayako and Mason

Querida Joana,

Qual é a carapuça que me serve?
