e sem mais nem menos

como todos os anos

numa semana festejamos

dois aniversarios

and just like that
like every year
in one week
we celebrated
two birthdays

consoante as idades

as ideias de festejos

foram diferentes
one teenager
one not (yet in age at least)
two different kinds of
celebrations

#4 convidou três amigos

e subiram a arvores 

depois de um picnic no chão

sentiu-se especial

neste dia de entrada

no mundo dos dois dígitos
#4 invited three friends
and they climbed trees
and ate on the ground
we had cake made by a special friend
and she felt special too
her entrance on a two digit world

a #3 estava doente no dia de anos

ficou em casa

e quando se sentiu melhor

e na plenitude dos seus 13 anos

juntamente com duas amigas

passearam na Via Del Corso

foram às compras

e almoçamos depois

só meninas
on her actual day
#3 was a little under the weather
but after a couple of days
with two teenage friends
we walked up and down
Via del Corso
and the shopped away

estão a crescer

uma em plena adolescencia

a outra

a caminho

as minhas meninas

pequenas

growing up
never easy
never a dull moment
my girls
little in my eyes

a primeira a atingir a maioridade

este ano tinha que ser assim

desde que saímos de Portugal há 11 anos

nunca festejou os anos em família

mas 18 anos são 18 anos

atingir a maioridade

tem que ser celebrado

a grande e à francesa

Since we left Portugal

all those 11 years ago

she never had a big birthday party

but 18 years old is something

that needs a special commemoration

e assim

de surpresa

 enquanto dormia em casa de uma amiga

uma equipa extraordinaria

ocupou-se do set up

que ficou 

LINDO

it was difficult to keep it a secret

but while she slept over at a friends house

an extraordinary team

helped us with the set up

and it was 

BEAUTIFUL

 e quando 

tudo estava pronto

ela apareceu

e nao queria acreditar
no ajuntamento de caras conhecidas

and when everything was ready

she arrived

she could not believe

the amount of people

that were there for her

18 anos

que dizer...

apenas que passaram depressa demais

que cliché mais corriqueiro
mas

 tão verdadeiro
18 years old
what can I say
It passed way too fast
what a trivial cliche
but 
oh 
so true

queremos tanto para os nossos
mas aqui quero apenas

que consiga atingir

todas as metas que pretenda alcançar
(e sei que vai conseguir)

e acima de tudo
que seja 

FELIZ
we want so many things for our kids
but I think I can only say
That I want her to achieve whatever she wants in life
and above all
I want her to be
 HAPPY

pela primeira vez

desde ha muito tempo

juntaram-se primos, tios e amigos
por ela

num ambiente de profunda

amizade
sentida no ar
for the first time
in a long time
cousins, aunt, uncles and friends
were together
for her
and true friendship
 was in the air

 foi uma festa descontraída

com aqueles que nos querem bem

e com quem queremos estar
e não perder contacto
apesar de estarmos longe
It was a very relaxed party
with people who care about us
and people that we don't want to loose contact with
even being so far away

foi uma festa que só foi possível

devido a 

um verdadeiro trabalho de equipa
dos nossos 70 convidados

a quem eu estarei eternamente agradecida
e fiz questão de o dizer
em voz alta
"OBRIGADO"
This party was only possible
due to an extraordinary team work of 70 
our guests
to whom I'm eternally grateful
and had to say it out loud
"THANK YOU"

E depois ela partiu para a Faculdade

longe de nós

mas essa

é outra historia!

And then she left for College

away from us

but that's

another story!

uma escola internacional

que celebra a língua materna
faz todo o sentido

é especial

ouvir palavras estranhas e totalmente imperceptíveis
quando passamos
 no recreio ou no corredor ou na cantina

contradiz o ditado

o "mundo é muito pequeno"
an international school
that celebrates the mother tongue language
makes all the sense in the world
it's kind a special
unique
when we listen strange words that make no sense for my brain
when I pass recess or the cantina
totally contradicts the saying
"its a small world after all"

crianças dos quatros cantos deste pequeno mundo

entoam em voz bem alta 

na sua lingua materna

aquilo que querem partilhar
children from all over this "small world"
recite with a strong nervous voice
mother language sentences 
whatever they want to share

faz-nos

 ver e sentir e acolher

a diferença

linguística
makes me
see and listen with interest
and an embracing feeling
of our differences
ethnical
cultural
linguistic

com este show

as crianças aprendem a orgulhar-se

 das suas raízes

do seu país

da sua bandeira

das suas cores

costumes

tradições
with this show
kids learn how to be proud
of theirs roots
country
flag
colors
smells
traditions

a minoria é aplaudida por todos

o orgulho nacional aumenta

e é mostrado com um enorme sorriso
nas bochechas pequeninas

enquanto desfilam ao som de uma musica

que nos transporta

aquele país que está a ser representado
minorities are applauded
national pride gets stronger
and shown with a huge smile
on their tiny cheeks
while they walk trough the carpet
with a national song

muitas destas crianças

viveram já em 4, 5, 6 países

nas suas ainda curtas vidas
falam mais de duas línguas

muitas delas nunca viveram

no que diz no passaporte

dai a enorme importancia

de celebrarem 

o orgulho de serem diferentes
some of these kids
lived in 4, 5 or 6 countries already
speak more than two languages
and some never lived 
wherever the passport says they are from
so you see the extreme importance
of a day like this
celebrate
the pride to be different

 os pais foram convidados a assistir

e a celebrar com todos

este dia especial

no meu caso

ao som de um fado da Mariza
parents were invited to go and see
and celebrate with everybody
such an important day
with my girl
I listen a very traditional portuguese music
"Fado"by Mariza
while she waved our flag

e devo dizer que a representação portuguesa

neste International Mother Languague Day

demonstrou

entusiasmo

simpatia

orgulho da sua bandeira 
I have to say
that the portuguese girls
while they marched
on the "International Mother Language Day"
were
enthusiastic
kind
smiley
huge pride of their flag

e sobretudo

orgulho de ser português!

and most of all

proud to be portuguese!
